Just Asking
Is New York City heading toward militarism in public school discipline?
Could the sending of the names of public school children to the military recruiters, unless the parent finds out in enough time to say no, part of this trend? In New York City, schools with ethnic minorities as the most represented group in the school did not send parents the form to stop the child's name from being sent until it was too late to do anything about it.
Parents, policymakers, and everyone connected to NYC public schools are concerned with the disarray seen in the management of student violence as well as the school safety strategy of the Klein/Bloomberg team. The current takeover of 12 of the "worst" schools is a short-term bandaid which may have serious legal consequences.
